U.S. Veteran

James Paul Kaib, age 75, died on February 11, 2013 at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, Fla. A lifetime sailor, he left Ohio to join the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served in posts across the country and around the globe for 22 years, including tours of duty in Spain, Morocco, Italy and Puerto Rico. Following his Naval career, he continued in Civil Service for 20 years at both Pensacola NAS and Eglin AFB. An avid bowler, he coached many youth leagues to countless tournament wins. Since 1998, he spent his retirement with friends on local golf courses and venturing on an annual mountain fishing trip. While serving in Naples, Italy, he met and married Veneranda Leone, his wife of 49 years. He had two sons, James Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. and Paul Kaib of Atlanta, Ga.; one grandson Michael Kaib of Jacksonville, Fla. and one hole-in-one. He is survived by two brothers, Robert (Peggy) Kaib and Thomas (Gail) Kaib, of Phoenix, Ariz. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Grace Kaib and a brother, William Kaib of Cleveland, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Covenant Hospice.
