Mable Sidener Pugh passed to her heavenly home on February 12, 2013. She was surrounded in her earthly home by the loves of her life: her husband of 61 years and her 5 children, all of which she cherished and loved unconditionally – and continues to do so. Mable lived by the philosophy of work hard, enjoy living, be kind and compassionate, laugh and smile a lot, give more than you receive, forgive easily, and love forever. Those attributes along with her extraordinary strength, will, determination, courage, devotion, loyalty, positive attitude, passion, and ingenuity made her the most wonderful wife, mother, and model that one could be. Born in Pensacola on February 13, 1930, she began working hard as a youngster when she helped her dad on his shrimp boat and in his small corner grocery store. After high school graduation, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator. After marriage, she worked at Pensacola Buggy Works in downtown and later was the bookkeeper for her husband’s masonry company until his retirement in the early 1990s. In 1953, she began the full-time “job” of which she held most dear and was the most proud: mother of her 5 children. From this job, she never retired. Through the years, Mable enjoyed many activities with family and friends: fishing, gardening, canning, cooking, vacations, casino trips, weddings, baby births, and fun get-togethers. Babysitting and afterschool caring for her granddaughter Donna Rae was a highlight of grandmotherhood. She and Brooks proudly and happily celebrated their 25th, 50th, 60th, and 61st anniversary parties with family and friends; the 61st celebration being January 11, 2013. Mable was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Albert and Darthula Sidener, and brother Harvey, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Lonnie Brooks Pugh, Sr., children Adam (Debbie), Rocky (Lisa), Robert (Tammy), Lonnie, Jr. (Donna), and Sharon (Bob); 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great grandchildren, sisters by marriage Evelyn and Ouida.; and sister Katherine; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Cecile; and two special friends Charles and Lorine. Memorial Services to celebrate Mable’s life will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens on Friday, February 15, 2013. Visitation at 10:00, Memorial Service at 11:00. A very special thank you to Mom’s “Angels on Earth” at the Sacred Heart Cancer Center on Davis Highway. You made a difference in Mom’s life and in ours.
