Gene T. Owens, Sr., 85, slipped away from home to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 26, 2013.

Gene was born in Sneads, Florida on August 10, 1927. He attended Pensacola Baptist Temple for many years. He loved to tell stories of the past to anyone that would listen.

He was preceded in death by his wife Leona B. Owens.

Gene is survived by his son Gene T. Owens, Jr; daughters, Patricia (Frank) Lovett and Debra (Harry) Mercer; grandchildren, Chelsea Pettingill, Gene T. Owens, III and Caty McCormick; great-grandchildren Isabella Owens, Sophia Owens and Jackson DeWitt; and sister Ruby Bowman and niece Madeline Graves.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Visitation will begin for friends at 1:00 p.m. until service time.

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Baptist Hospital and Covenant Hospice who so lovingly took care of him during his stay there.
