Melvin Columbus (PaPa) Presley, 93 was called home to be with the lord, February 27, 2019. Melvin was born on July 8, 1925 in Dawson Alabama. He was the second of five children. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Doyle, mother, Bertha, his beloved wife Ann and daughter Pam Smith (Leonard Smith). He is survived by daughters, Linda McDonald (John McDonald, deceased) and Patty Mask (Willie Mask), grandchildren, Cynthia Pires (Derrick), Brandy Fields, Melissa Clark (Tim), Christina Kerby (Sean), Tracy Winslow (Jeremy) and Wesley Mask, great grandchildren, Deven Pires, Heather Hopkins, Amanda Green, Logan Kelly, Jacob Reed, Jerome Kerby, Gabby Kerby, Kasey Townsend, Dayton Winslow and five great great grandchildren.
Melvin retired from the U.S. Navy as a Gunner’s Mate First Class with over 35 years of service. Melvin first enlisted on December 15, 1943 and served at many naval stations starting at NTC, Pensacola. He also served on five naval vessels, the last being the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Melvin had a love for sporting events and would talk about it, the whole time you were there visiting. Alabama Crimson Tide was his favorite football team and he had the whole family pulling for them. “ROLL TIDE”
Melvin will be missed not only as a very kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, but as a true and faithful American. He really valued this country and for what it stands for. It was also his belief that we should all share his love for God, family and friends whenever possible because tomorrow is not always a guarantee.
We will always love and miss you, all the days of our lives. Rest in peace and God be with you Melvin (PaPa) Presley.
A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 11:30am until the service begins at 12:30pm.
