Marie Slaby Anderson, passed away Wednesday August 16, 2017. Born on July 16, 1921, she was raised on a farm in Loxley, Alabama, with her brother Fred and sisters, Francis, Emma and Anna, by their parents Joseph and Anna Slaby.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, sisters, her son Johnnie Bennett and her husband of 54 years, Noah Carol Anderson.
She is survived by her daughter Mona Thomas and her husband Randell, daughter Sherri Steed and her husband Gary, daughter-in law Shirley Bennett, grandchildren Jim and Julie Clark, John and Cindy Clark, Mary Clark and Brad, Wynell Gainey, Cheryl Palmer and Johnny, Johnnie and Melonie Bennett, Hollie and Eric Struxness, David (JoJo)Lee and Brook, Alex Steed and Ashley. Darryl, Timmy and Darren Thomas. She loved having her family around and seeing her great grandchildren (about 30) and her great-great grand babies.
She was known as Mary by her brother and sisters, Marie by many friends and family, but to most she was Meemaw. I think Jimbo gave her that name. She would never let anyone leave her house hungry, feeding people was very important to her. She wouldn’t think twice about cooking for a large group of us at any time, camping, holidays, or family get togethers. After she quit cooking she wanted to take you out to eat, she loved “treating” people to lunch or dinner.
She loved to go mullet fishing with Peepaw, and provide fish for everyone that wanted some. She didn’t want to quit fishing if she saw one more mullet jumping in the bay.
She also loved collecting beads, jewelry and odd coins, she always dreamed of finding something that was treasure.
One of her favorite pastimes was playing the slot machines in Atmore and Biloxi. Then going to the buffet, but sometimes it was hard to get her to stop and eat because she didn’t want to stop playing.
She attended Calvary Chapel Gulf Breeze, and Pine Summit Baptist. She liked the way Pastor John taught the Bible.
We would like to thank Bay Breeze Nursing Home and Covenant Hospice Care for taking such good care of her these last few weeks.
Per her wishes we will only be having a visitation at Pensacola Memorial Gardens on Monday August 21, 2017 from 5-7 pm . Family at 4:00 please.
Thanks to everyone for all the prayers and thoughts in this difficult time. Only by knowing that she is with our Peepaw and they are with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven do we have comfort in saying goodbye, until we meet again.
