Marvin Dwain Arnold (Papa), 72, was born in Brunswick, Georgia on September 12, 1946 and passed on April 11, 2019.
The youngest of four children, his family moved to Pensacola in 1963 and it became their permanent home. He was 16 at the time and has lived in Pensacola for 56 years. His father retired from the Navy and his mother was a homemaker. He had two brothers, the oldest being Glenn and then Edgar, both are deceased. He had one sister, Shirley. He married in 1965 at 19 years old to Rebecca “Becky” Ann Barnes. They had three children together, Marvin Douglas, Kevin Dwain and Heather Ann Ganey (James). Later he became PaPa to Brittany Nicole Ashlock (Freddy) and Kayla Renee Arnold, Hannah Marie and Joshua James Ganey. He also has four great-grandchildren, Tristen Douglas and Ashton Wesley McMahan, Kaylee Nicole Rogers and Zayvion Smith, all of whom know him as PaPa. He is also survived by his sisters-in law, Pat Simmons (James) and Elaine Barnes (Randy-deceased) and many nieces and nephews.
Marvin’s love of motorcycles (Cushman Eagles) and cars, especially ‘57’ Chevys of which he had owned several of, drew him into auto repair at the age of fourteen. He became a self-made auto mechanic and later managed three different businesses, one being Exxon station for 7 years. He retired at the young age of 57. He was the foundation of wisdom and humor for his family. He had a full and active life and is loved and will be missed by all his family and friends.
A visitation will be held at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, 2019 from 6pm until 8pm. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2pm.
