Myrtle Willis Luke • June 29, 2017

Myrtle Willis Luke was born on September 21, 1915 in Santa Rosa County, Florida. She was the second child in a family of four children. Her parents were Lula Clyde Wolfe Willis and Don Carlos (D.C.) Willis.
Myrtle loved to reminisce and pass down stories about her loving and caring family during her childhood and what an impact her relationships and experiences had on her spiritual life. For as long as she could remember, her mother made sure that the family attended church. When she was very young, her dad worked away from home transporting lumber either by train or through the creeks and rivers, so he was away from home at times, but her mother would walk with the children from their home to the Coldwater Church. She had great memories of “dinners on the ground’, “church singings” and other social events held at the church. The church was basically the center of their lives. Then, as she got older, her dad became a full time farmer and would attend church with the family.
Then, as she married and moved away from home, she attended the Jackson Street Church. She did not drive, but she and dad made sure that we all got to church and Sunday School. She was very involved in all of the events. She very much looked forward to attending and participating in the Ladies Circle Meetings.
For as long as the family can remember, mother read Bible stories to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had plenty of church books available for us to read. She always made sure that our family remembered to say our blessings and our nightly prayers. Even as she aged, she maintained her “prayer list” and prayed each night for a long list of people.
We will always admire Myrtle for her faith and her love for God.
