Steve always came to work with a purpose and, even during those times that I knew he wasn't feeling his best, he always found the courage to keep going; I always admired him for that. Always quick to smile and never one to complain, he displayed that 'can-do' attitude that we all have heard about. Surely, I will miss his smiling face. God bless you, Steve, and the loved ones you've left behind. 'Bull'

We all here in Erwin will sorely miss Steve. He was a jolly soul and liked to cut up with us all. I went to see Steve when he was in the hospital for cellulitus. I told him he needed to take care of himself if he was going to enjoy his retirement. He finally got the message and started eating better and exercising. I'm sorry to see that he never got the chance to enjoy it. His favorite line when he running flat out on the mainline was "We're Cadillacing now". It was a pleasure to know and work with Steve and I'm sad to see him gone.

We here at CSX in Erwin, TN will miss Steve greatly. Steve was not just a co-worker, but a friend. Steve always had a way of making me smile and laugh. He could tell stories and keep you entertained for hours. I transferred to Erwin about six months before Steve did and had the pleasure of training him as an engineer in this area. I just wanted to let you know how much we all thought of Steve. My wife, who worked at a DR's office where Steve went, even thought the world of him, and she was only around him about a dozen times. While he will be sorely missed, we know he is in a better place.

I am truly heartbroken to know that Steve isn't with us anymore. He and I sat next to each other in Atlanta, GA when he transferred over to transportation and I was hiring on with the railroad in 1993. I liked him from the first minute I met him. Steve was a good engineer, a good friend, and a good man. Even when you were passing him on the main line at 50 MPH, you could see he had a smile on his face the same as he did when you passed him in the hallway at work. He had a great sense of humor and could always make you laugh. He talked about his family a lot and loved them very much. He will be sorely missed. Keep on Cadillacin' Steve!!
