1921-2009
Edward G. DeStefano, 88, a 33 year resident of Pensacola, Florida died on Friday, November 20, 2009 in Pensacola after a long and fortunate life. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Catherine Raff DeStefano of Pensacola; son, Guy DeStefano (Diana) of Pensacola; daughter, Susan DeStefano Higgins (Daniel) of Naperville, IL; son, Gary DeStefano of Pensacola, FL; son, Clay DeStefano (Anne) of San Marcos, TX; and son, Gregory DeStefano (Doug Taylor) of Seattle, WA. Ed also is survived by daughter-in-law Margi Miceli DeStefano of Gulf Breeze, FL and grandchildren Katie DeStefano Sheffield (Schyler) of Pensacola, Kyle DeStefano, Madeline DeStefano and Colin DeStefano of San Marcos, TX, Sean Higgins and Jamison Higgins of Naperville, IL and great granddaughter Breanna Sheffield of Pensacola, FL.
Born in Chicago, IL on January 22, 1921, Ed DeStefano was the youngest child of Mildred and Edward G. DeStefano, Sr., both born in Chicago, IL and the last surviving brother of the late Emil DeStefano (Olga), Joseph DeStefano (Mary) and Dorothy DeStefano Fowler (Eugene). With a lifetime spanning into the 21st century, Ed’s All-American journey included winning a four year football scholarship to Regis College, Denver, CO, where here graduated in 1942; serving his country as a United States Marine Corp 2nd Lt. in the Pacific theatre from 1942 to 1946; excelling as an advertising executive with the Reuben H. Donnelly corporation from the 1950’s to mid 1970’s; forging a family business, Kwik-Kopy Printers of Pensacola from 1976-1980; expanding into a successful Real Estate broker in Pensacola and Jacksonville, Florida and concluding his professional career as Real Estate Manager/Broker for Sabine Yacht and Racquet Club, Pensacola Beach from 1990 until his retirement in 1998. From his youth throughout his last days, Ed’s competitive perseverance helped create a loving legacy of family, including many nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends who enjoyed Ed’s company as he experienced all of the simple and grand things a life well lived has to offer. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Pensacola, Florida with final resting at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Special thanks to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola, Florida for caring and providing comfort to both Ed and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Pensacola in Ed’s name.
