Clint passed on to his Heavenly home quietly and peacefully on Thursday morning with his family surrounding him. Clint was born on January 13, 1920 at his home on Guernsey Road in Santa Rosa County. His parents were Charlie and Lola (Beasley) Guernsey.
He met Willa Jean (Miller) Guernsey in 1940 and they began their young family together. Soon after their marriage he was called to serve in the United States Army during World War II and served in France and Germany. After returning home he became employed by Corry Station as a plumber and a few years later lost his job due to base closure. A church friend helped him get a job as a Life Insurance Agent, and he discovered his “calling”. He remained active in Guernsey & Associates until very recently. His influence and love for the profession resulted in his three sons and one grandson following him into the Insurance business.
Today, Guernsey and Associates is a product of his leadership and strives to follow his example of great character and integrity.
Clint was a Deacon in his church for most of his adult life and served as music director for many years. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren continue to carry on his love of music. Clint loved his Pastor and always supported and encouraged him.
Clint received many industry awards, including President of the Pensacola NAIFA, Life Member of MDRT, along with many company awards and recognition.
After many years of loving care for Jean, our mother, she passed away after a very long and difficult illness.
Years later, Clint met Kathryn Leonard at Olive Baptist Church and they soon married. They had 8 years of a wonderful life together and he became loved and “adopted” by all of Kathryn’s family. The family would like to thank Kathryn for her faithful love and care of Clint during the last months of difficult medical problems.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ailene Nelson and Mildred Bujioli; as well as a granddaughter Chrissy Guernsey.
Clint is survived by his wife Kathryn; his children Ron (Martha) Guernsey, Janice (Jerry) Gibson, Elwyn (Linda) Guernsey, and Ray (Vickie) Guernsey; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother Cleveland Guernsery; sister Dannie (Robert) Bowman; step-children Debbie (Earl) Gothard, Cynthia (Mike) Moring, Kimberly (Wayne) Wilks, Jim Leonard, and Todd (Trina) Leonard; 16 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with his former pastor and friend, Dr. Robert Mills officiating. Bob Morrison, Minister of Music from First Baptist Church will be furnishing music. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. for friends until service time.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and step-sons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the associates of Guernsey & Associates.
Burial will be in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
The entire family wants to thank Covenant Hospice, the wonderful caregivers and Dr. Herb Gannon for their kindness and care during his stay with them. We also want to thank Dr. David Sheppard of the West Florida Medical Center Clinic for his care of Clint for the past few years.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be presented to Joyce Goldenburg Hospice Residence, 10075 Hillview Rd., Pensacola, FL 32504 or the Music Department at First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox Street, Pensacola, FL 32501.
Our family is thankful for our Dad’s life, his Christian example, his service to our country, his faithful love and care of our mother and his example of what a father should be.
