Robert Clayton Horne, 80, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. He is at peace now in Heaven with his beloved wife and Lord.
Born near Marianna, Florida on September 19, 1929, Robert moved to Pensacola during his first year of life. Growing up in Myrtle Grove, he attended Myrtle Grove Elementary School and Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. A Graduate of Pensacola High School in 1948, he continued to enjoy meeting with his fellow alumni for lunch. Robert joined the Air Force during the Korean War and began working at Chemstrand upon his return. He married the love of his life, Edith, in 1955. They were married for 53 years until her passing in January 2009. Robert remained active in Myrtle Grove Baptist Church where he was a deacon and leader for many years. Upon retirement from Monsanto, he went to work part-time for Landrum as a trainer for Monsanto employees. He also helped his wife take care of their two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Horne, his parents, Robert W. and Ina Horne and his sister, Juanita Martin.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy Stanley and her husband, Jerry, his two grandsons “his buddies”, Matthew and Gregory Stanley and Edith’s brother and sisters Elizabeth Blocker, Tom and Hildegard Keith, Billy and Betty Sue Lovelady.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 16, 2009 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Lentine officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Matthew and Gregory Stanley, Ben Stanley, Jimmy Brittain, James Jennings, Tom Keith and Billy Lovelady.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Comerford, Harold and Lewis Cosson, Barney Barnes, Jim Hernandez, Don Towery and deacons of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
The family would like to express thanks to Jimmy and Norma Brittain and Joe and Sandra Capara for their kindness and support shown during Robert’s illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Inclan and his wonderful staff for the care given to both Robert and Edith since 2003. Appreciation also goes the staff of Covenant Hospice for care provided during the last two months.
Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, Bud, Daddy or Granddaddy, he was a wonderful person and will be missed by all.
Memorial donations can be made to Myrtle Grove Baptist Church or Covenant Hospice.

Dear Nancy, Jerry, Matthew and Gregory.
Please know how much we all loved Uncle Bud and how special he was to our family. I was so very disappointed that he was too ill to see us when we were in AL in October. We were looking forward to seeing him (and all of you) again. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with you.

Dear Family:
I was told by my mother that Mr. Horne had passed away. I have long been gone from the community and Myrtle Grove Church, but I still remember what a wonderful and encouraging example Robert Horne was when I was growing up there. May the Lord bless, keep and comfort you all.
