Norman Meador, 71, of Pensacola, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010 surrounded by the love and support of his family after a brief battle with cancer.
“Norm” was born on July 20, 1938 in Bellamy, AL and grew up in York, Alabama. He was a member of Shorts Baptist Church in Ward, AL. Upon moving to Pensacola after high school graduation, Norm pursued his love of flying and received his pilot’s license. He was employed by Monsanto and eventually became self-employed with ventures that included One-Hour Valtone & Martinizing and the Green Lantern Package & Lounge. He spent his retirement years at Paradise Hardware on Hwy 98W where his co-workers and customers became his friends.
Norm is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Leo Meador, Sr. and Norma McDonald Meador, and his oldest brother, Robert Leo Meador, Jr. He is survived by his three loving daughters, Kim Turner (Allen), Gulf Breeze, FL, Cyndi Mercer (Eddie), Pensacola Beach, FL. and Tracy Meador, Panama City Beach, FL; two granddaughters, Allie and Natalie Turner; his brother, Mack Meador, Snellville,GA, and his sister, Betty Brown (Bob), Pensacola, FL, along with many nieces and nephews.
Norm’s family would like to thank all the wonderful friends and loved ones that visited him during his illness. Your support and prayers will never be forgotten. A special thank you to Wanda Mercer, Dr. Patton of the Hope Group and especially the oncology nurses and staff at Baptist Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 15th at Pensacola Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave. , Pensacola, FL 32504.
