Durward Alan Dean “The Friendly Man”, 84, of Pensacola died on Friday, February 12, 2010.
He proudly served in the U. S. Army during WWII. Durward retired from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department after serving 43 years and was a dedicated youth officer with the Department. He was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. On April 29, 2009, he participated in the Emerald Coast Honor Flight to Washington, D. C.
Preceded in death are his parents, Willis and Bethany (Andrews) Dean; daughter Debra Ann; three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Arleda Steeley Dean; daughter Leah Dean Gillis (James Patrick); son D. Alan Dean, Jr.; daughter Rebecca Dean Davis; grandchildren Joshua Alan Davis (Nina), Jeremy Adam Davis (Niki) and Jessica Marie Gillis and two great grandchildren.
A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home until services begin at 2:00 p.m.
Interment will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Davis, Jeremy Davis, Wilbur Steeley, Sammy Dean,
Mike Dykes and Aubrey Cook.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Heart Association in memory of Durward Alan Dean.
