Virgil R. Kelly, 89, of Pensacola, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
Born on September 29, 1920 in Walnut Hill, FL, he served with the US Army during WWII in the Pacific. After 20 plus years of service, he retired from Civil Service. He was an ordained deacon who had an easy style of living and was featured in the book “A Place Called Simplicity” having attained the nickname “Country” for living his dream. He lived his dream by enjoying his many hobbies, including beekeeping, fishing, cooking and made swings from driftwood he found while boating in the local rivers.
Preceded in death are wife, Annie V. Kelly; daughter Connie White; grandson Al Andrews; siblings Kenneth E. Kelly, Betty Jean Robinson and Julius W. Kelly and a son-in-law, Ben Melton.
Survivors include Mary D. Kelly, wife; grandchildren Vicki Alderuccio, Kelly Andrews, Jessica Giardina and Jennifer Tappan; a brother Raymond M. Kelly; son-in-law Jim White; daughter-in-law Jackie Melton; great-grandchildren Dastair, Jarod, Maegan, Joshua, Brandon, Emma Grace, Tami, Kaylee, Parker, Chloe, Hope and Kaylee; great-great grandchildren Jimmy Alan, Victoria, Carlie, Caitlyn, Wesly, Anna and Colin.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Brother Bill Tinker officiating.
Interment, with honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard, Fort Rucker, Alabama, will follow at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
